Situation. 34-year-old, mechanical low back pain for 3 weeks, gradually worsening, no leg symptoms below the knee. Here for a first physio assessment.
- Mechanical LBP, worse with sitting & lifting, eased by walking. NRS 6/10
- STarT Back: medium risk — fear it is something serious, now avoiding activity.
- Sleep disrupted — waking 2–3× a night from discomfort.
“Run a half-marathon in 10 weeks — and stop worrying it’s serious.”
Tried: ibuprofen (some relief), rest, heat pack. May want to explore: graded return to activity, reassurance on the STarT psychosocial score, sleep.
