Frequently Asked Questions

What does Briefing do?

Before an appointment, Briefing asks you a short series of questions suited to the kind of clinician you are seeing, then arranges your answers into a one-page brief you can show or send. It is a way of making sure you say what matters — it is not medical advice.

Does Briefing diagnose or tell me how urgent something is?

No. Briefing never diagnoses, recommends treatment or makes an urgency decision. Everything in your brief is what you told it, labelled as patient-reported, for your clinician to weigh up. If you think you need urgent help, contact your local emergency number.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-in, no password and no email address. Open the app and start.

How do I answer by voice?

Tap the microphone next to the text field, speak naturally, then tap the square stop button. Your words appear in the text field where you can read them back and change anything before sending. Tap the ✕ while recording to discard it.

The microphone button shows a line through it.

Microphone or speech-recognition access is turned off for Briefing. Open Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone (and › Speech Recognition) and turn Briefing on. You can always type instead.

I made a mistake on an earlier question.

Tap the ‹ arrow at the top of the question to go back; your previous answer is restored so you can change it. On the review screen, tap Edit next to any item.

Where does my information go?

Your answers stay on your phone until you tap “create my brief”. They are then sent over an encrypted connection to our brief service, which uses an AI model to arrange them and returns the brief. Nothing is stored on our servers. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

How do I give the brief to my clinician?

On the brief screen, tap the share icon to send it via Messages, Mail, AirDrop or any app — or simply show your phone at the appointment.

Is my brief saved?

Not beyond the current session. Tapping “Start over” clears it. If you want to keep it, share it to yourself (for example, Notes or Mail).

“Couldn’t prepare your brief” — what now?

Your answers are kept. Check your connection and tap Try again. If it keeps failing, email us with the time it happened.
